It appears that a Lone Star State rivalry will be the basis for French phenom Victor Wembanyama’s debut in the NBA.
According to NBA reporter Marc Stein, Wembanyama’s first game ‘is tentatively slated for October 25’ with the rookie’s San Antonio Spurs team hosting the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic.
It’s the highly anticipated league debut for one of the most hyped prospects in NBA history.
He was drafted first overall by San Antonio in this year’s NBA Draft just a few months ago.
Since then, Wembanyama has decided to try and ‘disappear’ after a lengthy draft process, a long French league season, and playing in the NBA’s Summer League.

Wembanyama’s stay in the Summer League was short – only a couple of games – and afterwards he decided to take a much-needed vacation as he began building his off-court life in San Antonio.
‘In the past month, I think basketball wasn’t even 50% of my schedule,’ Wembanyama said last month. ‘I can’t stand it. I know it’s a special moment in my life, but I’m glad it’s over. I just wanna hoop.
‘I just wanna work out, lift, because this is my life. Obviously, every first (overall) pick gotta go through this, but yeah it just makes me better for the future.’
Wembanyama also had to deal with a scandal surrounding Britney Spears when her attempts to meet him were met with force by the NBA player’s security staff.
He’ll likely be on the court again for the start of the NBA preseason in early October – with the Spurs’ first game coming against Oklahoma City.
