Attacks targeting American forces in Iraq and Syria have continued for two weeks, with Reuters reporting that a new attack was targeted Ain al-Assad base Iraq, which hosts American soldiers.
Reuters quoted security sources as saying that 4 Katyusha rockets were fired towards the base, which is located in Anbar Governorate, western Iraq.
Two sources said that the missiles were launched from a desert area about 25 kilometers north of the base, and that security forces began searching for the perpetrators of the attack.
It was not immediately clear whether the attack caused material or human losses, and two Iraqi army officials said that the missiles may have fallen far from the base.
Meanwhile, an official said: Pentagon (The US Department of Defense) said that his country’s forces and the international coalition forces in Iraq and Syria were subjected to 23 attacks by drones and missiles during this October.
He explained to reporters, “From October 17 to October 30, American and coalition forces were attacked at least 14 times in Iraq and 9 times in Syria.”
He added, “Most of them failed to achieve their goals thanks to our strong defenses.”
The Pentagon had previously said that the attacks resulted in 21 American personnel being slightly injured, while a civilian contractor died of a heart attack during a warning of a possible attack at the Ain al-Assad base.
On the other hand, warplanes targeted armed factions loyal to Iran fighting alongside Syrian regime forces in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, after reports of an attack targeting American forces in the Koniko gas field on Monday afternoon.
The Turkish Anatolia news agency said that unidentified warplanes targeted the points of the pro-Iranian factions in the village of Khasham after American forces were attacked in the Koniko field.
The agency added that unidentified aircraft also launched two attacks on sites in the Albukamal area in Deir ez-Zor.
American forces in the Middle East are facing escalating attacks with missiles and drones against the backdrop of their support for Israel in its war on the Gaza Strip.
Washington blamed factions loyal to Iran, and announced air strikes last week targeting sites in Syria that the Pentagon said were linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
But the Pentagon has repeatedly stressed that it is keen for the war in Gaza not to expand into a regional confrontation with Iran and the forces loyal to it.
About 2,500 American soldiers are deployed in Iraq and about 900 others in Syria.
