US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that the United States does not support the calls currently being made for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, and stressed that these calls should be replaced by temporary humanitarian truces to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Kirby justified the American position by saying that Hamas will be the only beneficiary of the ceasefire now.
He said that the US administration’s focus now is on securing safe passage out of Gaza, adding that talks will then be held with partners in the region – including Egypt – to determine their ability to host families wishing to leave Gaza for a temporary period.
