UN Human Rights Commission spokeswoman Elizabeth Trussell said that the commission had documented crimes against humanity committed by Israel in GazaThis came after a series of massacres committed by the occupation, the most recent of which was in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip.
Trussell added – in statements to Al Jazeera – that the Commission has submitted reports in this regard, and will continue to document Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip.
She added that the Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip violate the principles of international law, noting that Israel uses explosives with enormous effect.
The UN official pointed out that many of the victims in Gaza were children, and said that this was worrying.
Trussell also expressed the concern of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights about the casualties of innocent civilians in Gaza, noting that civilians in the Strip are under tremendous pressure and are suffering from very difficult conditions.
The Commission’s spokeswoman called on all parties to the conflict to comply with the law of war, and demanded the release of those she described as hostages of the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation).
The ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip for more than 3 weeks has left 8,796 martyrs, including 3,648 children and 2,290 women, and 22,000 injured, according to the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Health in the Strip.
