The American media group Spyglass has excluded Mexican actress Melissa Barrera from the film series “Scream 7” for sharing posts in support of Palestine on social media platforms, describing what is happening as a result of the Israeli war on Gaza as “genocide.”
According to what the American magazine “Variety” reported, the company “Spyglass”, which produced the film, initially refused to comment on what was published about Barrera’s exclusion from the film crew, but later came back to justify that “Barrera was expelled to show her support for the Palestinian cause.”
A company spokesperson issued a statement published by the magazine saying, “Our position is unequivocally clear: We have no tolerance for anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or any “Something that blatantly suggests it is hate speech.”
Melissa (33 years old) wrote on her Instagram account, “We come together as artists and advocates, but more importantly as human beings we witness the devastating loss of life and the horrors unfolding in Palestine and Israel.”
She added, “Please join us in calling on Congress and other world leaders to call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost. We must end the bombing of Gaza, ensure the safe release of all hostages, and demand adequate humanitarian access.” To the people who need it most.”
On October 24, Barrera described Gaza as “similar to a concentration camp, where the population suffers in movement and travel, as well as the conditions that Israel creates with a shortage of electricity and water… What is happening in Gaza is genocide and ethnic cleansing,” via the “Stories” service. On Instagram.
The company quickly severed its ties with the heroine of the movie “In the Heights,” who was preparing for the starring role in the new part of the “Scream” series after starring in the fifth and sixth parts during the past two years.
Following Barrera’s exclusion, the film’s director, Christopher Landon, wrote on his account on the “X” platform – formerly “Twitter” – a post in which he said, “Everything is bad. Stop screaming. This was not my decision,” in reference to removing the Mexican actress from work. He was forced to delete the post later.
While Barrera’s position received wide praise, bloggers and activists considered what happened to her “a restriction of freedoms more than ever before,” and they also condemned the company for denying the genocide committed against the Palestinians.
neve campbell took a stand against the studios and refused to be in scream 6 when they didn’t pay her worth for being the main character of the franchise.

Firing Melissa Barrera for acknowledging a genocide in a year where Mel Gibson was allowed to lead a big budget tv show is some straight up fucking bullshit

Melissa Barrera is the first Mexican final girls to have been recognized worldwide thanks to a fairly famous franchise like Scream, so that in the end they took away her job because she said “genocide bad” is despicable.
We are with you Melissa.

Activist Dajur wrote on the “X” platform, saying, “Melissa spread awareness about Palestine despite being fired from her job and apparently being blacklisted, to adopt a moral position that is respected and above any film.”
melissa barrera as recent as 3 hours ago has continued to spread awareness about palestine despite being fired from jobs and seemingly blacklisted. she stands on morals regardless of attempts to silence her. i will respect and support that courage over any fucking movie.

Writer Zoe Bryant tweeted, “Not only is the production company defaming Melissa Barrera by accusing her of anti-Semitism, but they are also denying the fact that genocide and ethnic cleansing occurred in Palestine, which is unforgivable, but it is only the beginning.”
not only is spyglass slandering melissa barrera by falsely accusing her of being antisemitic, they’re also actively denying the fact that a genocide & ethnic cleansing is taking place in palestine as we speak. what’s happened today is unspeakably sickening, & it’s only the start. https://t.co/OnmpwQZbO5

Actor John Cusack also criticized, via “X,” the company’s denial of genocide, and shared the definition of genocide, pointing out that Israeli officials declared their intentions to genocide and issued threats in songs about exterminating half of the children in Gaza, “so how can these facts be anti-Semitic?”
Many historians are calling it genocide – some are using the term “genocidal intent “ – which defines as a genocidal attempt – so genocide in progress or people who intend to commit it -the Israeli officials have used -by any definition – genocidal language and genocidal… https://t.co/0PJWwH1rdS
