Norwegian Erling Haaland became the fastest player to score 40 goals in the Champions League, after his goal against German Leipzig in the match that his team, Manchester City, ended with a 3-2 victory yesterday, Tuesday.
Haaland (23 years old), the Manchester City star, needed only 35 matches to become the fastest scorer in the Champions League, breaking the record that was held by Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy until yesterday, Tuesday.
It took Van Nistelrooy 45 matches to reach this number, which makes Haaland 10 times better than him.

This was the twelfth time that Haaland scored a goal against RB Leipzig, that is, at least 5 more goals than he scored against any other opponent he ever faced.
Haaland scored 17 goals in the Citizen shirt, after 15 goals with Borussia Dortmund, and 8 when he was with Red Bull Salzburg.
Haaland’s new record comes a few days after he broke the record of 50 goals in the English Premier League, as he scored 17 fewer matches than the previous record.

The young Norwegian scored against Liverpool – last Saturday – in his 48th match in the English Premier League. Breaking the previous record of 65 matches held by Manchester United legend Andy Cole.
Kylian Mbappé ranks third as the fastest player to reach this number, as he needed 59 matches, while two of the best scorers – Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski – needed 61 matches.
Haaland’s latest goal helped overturn a two-goal deficit, after Luis Obinda’s brace gave Leipzig the lead at the end of the first half.
This is the first time that City has overturned a two-goal deficit in the Champions League, after losing all six previous matches in the competition.
With this result, City strengthened its English record of not losing in European matches, after avoiding defeat in the last 19 matches in the Champions League and European Super Cup.
