The former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, launched the Doha Forum in 2000, and its first edition was held in 2001. The Forum held 20 editions before the edition of December 10, 2023, which indicates the continuity of the meeting since its inception, and despite the circumstances imposed by the Corona pandemic in the years 2020 and 2021, the Forum was keen to hold its two editions in these two years with virtual sessions that included a group of senior policy makers, experts and researchers to discuss A number of pressing global issues.
Since 2018, the Forum has been keen to launch a youth version of the forum, and it is one of the main platforms for the QatarDebate Centre, through which young people gather to discuss and present various solutions to decision-makers and stakeholders.
Forum objectives
The Forum aims to spark dialogue and better enrich discussions among influential participants from governments, civil society, media, academia and think tanks, by contributing to its mission of encouraging the exchange of ideas, policy-making and action-oriented networking.
The forum’s organizers are keen to raise pressing issues in the world and promote dialogue by selecting personalities who express all the ideas presented, which facilitates reaching results that help decision-makers deal with solutions to these problems.
The organizing committee sets an annual slogan for the forum, under which many sessions that serve its goals fall. The 2022 edition was titled “Transformation to a New Era,” and discussed all the geopolitical changes that occurred in the world that year.
In the year 2023, the forum took the title “Building a Common Future,” in an effort to discuss potential solutions to the ongoing disputes in the world in order to build a better future for future generations.
