Recommended by foreign ministers Mali AndNiger AndBurkina Faso Friday by establishing a confederation that paves the way for unity between the three countries.
A joint statement by the ministers, issued following a two-day meeting in Bamako, said: “Recognizing the enormous potential for peace, stability, diplomatic strength and economic advancement offered by the establishment of a strengthened political alliance, the ministers… are guided by the ambition of achieving a federal union that will ultimately bring together Burkina Faso and Mali.” And Niger, they recommend the leaders of the Sahel countries to establish a confederation of the three countries.”
Military personnel took power in Niger following a coup last July, and Mali and Burkina Faso, which are led by military personnel who also took power in two coups in 2020 and 2022, respectively, joined in solidarity with them.

During the meeting aimed at strengthening the tripartite alliance, the ministers stressed the importance of diplomacy, defense and development to “enhance political and economic integration” between their countries.
The statement stated that the ministers of economy and finance from the three countries recommended in their meeting on November 25 the establishment of a stabilization fund and an investment bank, as well as the establishment of a committee responsible for deepening discussions on economic and monetary union issues.
The foreign ministers were received by the head of the Malian military junta, Assimi Goeta, and the Malian Prime Minister.
Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop indicated that the results will be presented to the heads of state, who are scheduled to meet soon in Bamako, without specifying a date.
