Arsenal temporarily strengthened its lead in the English Premier League to 4 points after defeating its guest, Wolverhampton, 2-1, in the opening of the 14th round today, Saturday.
The Gunners’ goals were scored by Bukayo Saka (6) and Norwegian Martin Odiggar (13), before Brazilian Matias Cunha reduced the gap for Wolverhampton (86).
Awaiting Manchester City’s match against Tottenham 5 tomorrow, Sunday, the London club, searching for its first Premier League title since 2004, now has a four-point lead at the top of the standings with 33 points, compared to 29 for City and 28 for Liverpool, which also faces Fulham on Sunday.
This victory is the fifth in a row for Arsenal in various competitions, after its crushing 6-0 victory over French club Lens in midweek in the Champions League, which sealed its qualification to the knockout rounds, and the fourth in a row in the local league.
Arsenal rose to the top of the Premier League by defeating Brentford 1-0 in the last round, taking advantage of Manchester City and Liverpool’s 1-1 draw in the summit match.

Spanish coach Mikel Arteta’s team struck early and showed a clear intention of clinging to the lead, and Saka succeeded in scoring after a series of collective passes on the outskirts of the area between Saka, the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus, and the Japanese Takehiro Tomiyasu, before the latter passed a perfect ball to Saka, who shot it into the left corner, giving Landowners advance (6).
