Birth and upbringing
The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad, was born in Kuwait in 1940. He is the seventh son of Sheikh Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the tenth Emir of Kuwait, who ruled the country between 1921 and 1950.
Study and training
Sheikh Mishal received his education at Al-Mubarakiya School, then continued his studies in the United Kingdom, where he graduated from Hendon Police College in 1960.
Jobs and responsibilities
After returning from studying in the United Kingdom, he joined the Ministry of the Interior, which was newly established at the time, and rose to a number of positions until he became, in 1967, head of the General Investigations with the rank of colonel. During his reign, it was transformed into the “State Security” Department, and his presence in the Ministry of the Interior continued for about 20 years. A year during which he worked in various sectors and departments.
In 1977, the late Emir of the country, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, appointed him as head of the Diwan of Nabati Poets, which was established with the aim of preserving the ancestral heritage of Nabati poetry, teaching it to current generations, and instilling the customs and legacies it contains in the souls of children.
He was appointed, pursuant to Decree No. (12/2004) issued on April 13, 2004, as Deputy Chief of the National Guard with the rank of Minister, to contribute to its development and enhance its role and status by issuing the strategic document for the National Guard, which aims to protect the country’s sovereignty, legitimacy, constitution, people, and values by participating in preserving Security and stability, and he continued to hold his position until he was recommended as Crown Prince.
On October 7, 2020, the late Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, nominated his brother, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad, as Crown Prince in accordance with the emirate’s inheritance law and the texts of the Kuwaiti Constitution, as Article 4 stipulates that “Kuwait is a hereditary emirate in the descendants of Mubarak Al-Sabah, and the Crown Prince shall be appointed within a year at most.” From the accession of the prince.”
On October 8, 2020, Sheikh Meshaal took the constitutional oath before the Emir of the country, and this was followed by a special session held by the National Assembly on this occasion, during which the members of the Council pledged allegiance to the new Crown Prince.
Duties of the Crown Prince
Sheikh Meshaal represented the State of Kuwait in many international forums during his tenure as Crown Prince in the country, the most important of which was his participation in the Green Middle East Initiative summit in Riyadh in October 2021, and his leadership of the country’s delegation at the meeting of the 42nd session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf. Which was held in the capital, Riyadh, on December 14, 2021.
He also represented Kuwait at the Jeddah Security and Development Summit, which was held with the participation of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the United States, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq on July 16, 2022, and the Arab League Council Conference for the 31st regular session at the leadership level in Algeria on November 2, 2022. .
On June 22, 2022, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah delivered a speech to the people on behalf of the Emir of the country at the time, in which he stressed the protection of the constitution and not to amend, revise, or disrupt it, and to ensure its survival. He decided at that time, based on his constitutional right stipulated in Article 107 of the Constitution, to dissolve the Council The nation offers a constitutional solution and calls for general elections in accordance with constitutional and legal procedures, dates, and controls.
