The social media platform “X” (formerly Twitter) returned after a service outage for users around the world early Thursday morning, as more than 77,000 users in the United States faced problems at the height of the outage.
Users in Canada, Britain, France and other countries reported problems accessing both X and X Pro.
Platform users were unable to view posts on the social networking site, and were surprised by a message saying, “Welcome to X.” They also faced problems loading on “X Pro,” with a message saying, “Waiting for posts.”
More than 7,000 users in Canada and Britain suffered from problems with the platform, according to data from the website DownDetector.com, which monitors website malfunctions.
DownDetector.com tracks outages by examining status reports from several sources, including users, and the cause of the outage, which began Thursday after 5 a.m. GMT, is not yet known.
X also did not issue any immediate comment regarding the malfunction, nor did it provide any information about the cause.
This is not the first time that the platform has faced this malfunction, as it faced several times a sudden cessation of service, which the administration at the time justified by technical problems in the servers.
X is currently facing headwinds that have become evident with the European Union opening an investigation into alleged violations by the platform of European rules related to content moderation and transparency.
