Media reports revealed new information in the case of Jose Enriquez Negrera, former vice president of the Spanish Federation’s arbitration committee, stating that his son received sums of money in exchange for alleged advisory services to referees.
The Spanish newspaper “El Covidoncial” indicated that Santiago Jaime Latri, who was a referee in the first division between 2014 and 2022 and is now part of the VAR team, revealed how the so-called “coaching” service works for Negrera’s son, Javier Enriquez Romero, which enables many… of the rulers have access to it.
The service in question aims to improve the performance of referees on the field.
Jaime Latri confirmed that he had signed Enriquez Romero, whom he knew through the meetings he attended at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation.
The information indicates that in the proceedings of Court No. 1 in Barcelona, headed by Judge Joaquín Aguirre, a total of 7 transfers appeared in the amount of 200 euros from an account belonging to Jaime Latre, to another account belonging to Enriquez Romero.

🚨 (El Confidencial) | The tax authority found that FC Barcelona used seven commercial companies to transfer more than seven million euros paid to the vice president of the referees’ committee and his son Javier Enriquez Romero between 2001 and 2018. pic.twitter.com/cFsvQ9MTCq— Raeid Madrid RM 35 🏆14🇮🇶 (@raeid20042004) March 14, 2023
On July 27, 2023, the arbitrator recognized these payments. The summary states that referees Javier Alberola Rojas, David Mede Jiménez, Áliver de la Fuente Ramos, Iñaki Vicande Garrido, Carlos Caldereña Pavón, and Álvaro Moreno Aragón also paid sums for these coaching services between 2016 and 2019.
In this sense, Jaime Latre also acknowledges cash payments, saying, “Many people paid him this way.”
Information received from “Covidoncial” indicates that these payments were parallel to those that Barcelona had already paid to Negrera and his son between 2001 and 2018 (more than 7 million euros), in exchange for various consulting services and reports, in what was known in the Spanish press as “Negrira’s scandal with Barcelona.”

Negrera’s son had previously admitted in a previous testimony that he had received money from Barcelona in exchange for “accompanying him practically every week” to the refereeing teams that were officiating matches for Barcelona when he played at Camp Nou.
Barcelona has been facing this issue since last season, after being accused of benefiting from referees’ decisions, based on assistance from Negrera. As a result, several clubs in the Spanish League demanded that Barcelona be investigated and punished.
