Midfielder Oriol Romeu has completed his move from Barcelona to Girona on a one-year loan but the Catalan club have included a 'fear clause' in the contract.
Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” said that the “fear clause” prevents Romeo from playing against Barcelona during his loan period to Girona.

Barcelona had previously included the same clause when loaning Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Nico Gonzalez, and Pablo Torre in previous seasons.
The newspaper pointed out that the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) banned the use of this clause in 2014. Despite the position of international football bodies, neither the Spanish League nor the Spanish Football Federation explicitly ban this clause, which is used by some clubs such as Real Madrid at the local level.
Romeo joined Barcelona in the summer of 2023, coming from Girona for 3.4 million euros, but the midfielder was unable to perform at his best and quickly left the club.
Romeo is under contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2026, and he was the one who requested to leave this summer. The player participated in 37 matches, including 17 as a starter, but he did not perform convincingly.
