The European Football Association (UEFA) decided today, Wednesday, to punish the Spanish national team duo, Alvaro Morata and Rodrigo Hernandez Cascante (Rodri), with a one-match suspension, after their offensive chants against Gibraltar during the celebrations of winning the Euro 2024 title.
UEFA stated – via its official website – that the Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend Rodri and Morata for one match due to violating the basic rules of decent behavior, and using sporting events for demonstrations of a non-sporting nature.
The European Union has opened an investigation against the Spanish national team duo, due to chants that Gibraltar is Spanish.

The events took place during the celebration of the “La Roja” team for winning the Euro 2024 European Cup in Germany, at the Plaza de Cibeles Theater in Madrid, on Monday, July 15.
The Gibraltar Football Association condemned the anti-Gibraltar chants, considering that there is no place for such behaviour in football, and demanding disciplinary action against such violations.
The two players will not be able to participate in Spain's next match on September 5 against Serbia, in the European Nations League, in Group 4, which also includes Denmark and Switzerland.
