Channel 12 Israel confirmed that the Israeli Frisbee team for ages 13-17 was banned from participating in the European Frisbee Championship held in the Belgian city of Ghent, in a precedent it described as dangerous.
The newspaper quoted Ayelet Ben Zion, head of the Frisbee Association, as saying that the Israeli team was not allowed to participate in the competition on Tuesday, even though the field designated for the team was in the city of Doppelganger and not Ghent like the other participating teams from 11 European countries, for reasons related to the war on Gaza.
Belgian media reported on the ban decision, and confirmed that it was the result of boycott campaigns carried out by activists opposed to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Activists anticipated the match and painted the walls of the building that was supposed to host the match red, and wrote slogans on it such as “Boycott Israel now.”
What is a flying saucer game?
Frisbee is a game whose equipment is a flying saucer, usually made of plastic, in the shape of a cylinder with a diameter of 20 centimeters, made in a way that makes it fly in the air for a certain distance if it is thrown and rotated.
Although the term is a registered trademark of Wham-O, it is often used to refer to this game, which was invented and developed by Walter Frederick Morrison.
