Part of a hotel has collapsed in western Germany, killing two people and leaving eight others trapped in the rubble.
According to police, those who were killed are believed to be a man and a woman.
A floor in the Reichsschenke Zum Ritter Götz hotel in Kroev, a winemaking town on the Mosselle River some 110 kilometres (68 miles) west of Frankfurt, collapsed at around 11:00 pm on Tuesday, police said in a statement.
Of the 14 people inside at the time, five managed to get out unhurt.
By early Wednesday morning, emergency services had established that one person was dead, but hadn’t yet been able to recover the body. At that point, eight people were believed still to be in the building, some of them seriously injured.

A young couple and their two-year-old child from Urk, Netherlands, were trapped under the rubble, Dutch News reported.
More than two hours later, authorities said they had rescued two women, a man and a child, with the Dutch woman and her toddler being among them.
Her husband, however, is still trapped under the wreckage, according to Dutch outlet Het Urkerland.
Emergency services are having trouble reaching people trapped in the debris as they fear more of the building could collapse. They are communicating with those still under the rubble.
Authorities said that one of the people trapped was a child, who was physically unhurt and in contact with emergency workers.
Footage and images showed the building’s gable roof slanted backwards and parts of the ground floor crushed as emergency services tended to the victims.

They said that some 250 emergency workers, including drone specialists, were at the scene, as well as rescue dogs.

This comes after four people were killed and dozens injured back in May after a building collapsed at a beach resort in Playa de Palma, Majorca.
A terrace of a two-storey building had collapsed through ‘to the basement’ of the building, leaving only the façade standing.
The bar was popular with British and German tourists.
It was later revealed that the newly built terrace was illegally built. The Medusa Beach Club’s owners had unveiled the extension just days before the collapse.
This is a breaking story, more to follow.
