Her father, the late 2nd Baron Erskine of Rerrick, was declared bankrupt after a business venture went wrong, and now television chef Gizzi Erskine has been left ‘broken’ having suffered her own financial calamity.
Gizzi, 44, is distraught after the prospective buyer of her London home withdrew from the deal at the last minute.
She had hoped the sale would help clear her extensive debts.
‘It has been brutal,’ she admits. ‘The buyer pulled out three days before I was meant to move, after pushing back exchange for the last four to five weeks and a move date being agreed.
‘The house was on the market for a whole year and was ‘sold’ in March.’

The two-bedroom warehouse conversion in Hackney, East London, was on the market for offers over £900,000.
She says: ‘I’ve spent so much money I haven’t got, trying to get to the finishing line as a consequence of the worst business decision I’ve ever made.’
She has invested in a string of failed businesses, the most recent being the Love Cafe in Margate, Kent, which she ran with former Libertines singer Carl Barat.

The author of books including Cook Yourself Thin had been planning to split her time between a place in South London and Brighton, home of her rocker boyfriend, Matthew Turner, singer of punk band Luxury Apartments.
‘I’ve worked so hard on removing all the chaos from my life,’ she says, adding of her planned house sale: ‘I’ve worked so hard on healing myself and this was my point of full exit. It’s been my impending salvation.
‘I was three days away from being able to pay my debts; three days away from having financial freedom; three days away from not living hand-to-mouth for the first time in almost three years.
‘I am really broken.’
Dua’s mansion extension goes down a bomb
Dua Lipa was warned to look out for unexploded Luftwaffe bombs during building works on her £6.75 million home.
The Levitating singer, 28, had to shell out on a survey which pinpointed bombs dropped close to her pad during the Second World War.
Her architects have found that several streets surrounding the mansion in North London were struck by Hitler’s planes during the Blitz.
And, after receiving the UXO – unexploded ordnance – report, her team were given the green light to proceed with creating an extension to the property complete with an underground pool and home studio.

Strictly family fun for Amanda
Amanda Abbington’s life sometimes seems more riddled with incident than a soap opera, so it must be a relief for her to return to the gentle drama of the stage – and the love of her family.
At the first night of When It Happens To You, a new play at the Park Theatre in North London, she was joined by Joe, 18, and Grace, 16, her children by ex-boyfriend and one-time Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman.
Also there in support was her fiancé, Jonathan Goodwin, 41, whose career as an escapologist ended in an accident which nearly cost him his life, just five weeks after they’d got engaged, when he suffered a severed spinal cord.

It’s a joyous moment for Jodie Kidd.
No, not a date for her wedding to former Royal Marine Joseph Bates, to whom she’s been snugly engaged since 2021, but a stellar return to the modelling career which she began, precociously, aged just 16.
Describing it as an ‘unbelievable honour’ to front the new Burberry campaign, Jodie, 45, gushes: ‘I had no idea my comeback would be to work with the iconic British fashion house and hugely talented team.’
In recent years Jodie, who’s been twice married and has a son, Indio, by former boyfriend Argentinian polo player Andrea Vianini, has been landlady of the award-winning Half Moon pub in Kirdford, West Sussex.

Jack laughs all the way to the bank
Jack Whitehall’s girlfriend, Roxy Horner, told me last month that she had acquired a taste for opera.
And Jack shouldn’t have any trouble buying the model the best seats at Covent Garden.
For the private company the stand-up comedian uses to channel his earnings, Jackpot Productions, has just filed accounts reporting a £1.8 million profit last year.

His takings – which amount to £35,000 per week – increase accumulated earnings held by him in the business to a whopping £11.4 million.
That’s almost £2 million up on the previous year.

Touching gesture from Kate’s stepfather
Not that Kate Beckinsale needs the money, of course, but she will be touched to be named in the will of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, who died in January aged 87.
The television director, who worked on hit dramas including A Touch of Frost, Cracker and Inspector Morse, left just £83,000.
According to newly published probate documents, he left specific instructions on how the money should be divided.

He had five children and one stepdaughter, Beckinsale.
All six are to receive a 15th share, which works out at about £5,600 each.
His eight grandchildren, including Kate’s daughter, Lily, also an actress, will receive £2,800.
