A mother-of-five who drove her Audi into an ASDA security guard’s foot leaving her with a badly broken ankle, has been jailed for three years.
Roxanne Dale flew into a rage outside the busy supermarket in Wallsend, North Tyneside, back in February after she went to pick up her son.
Horrified onlookers watched on as the 36-year-old smashed into another vehicle, before driving into the security guard and speeding off.
CCTV footage shows the supermarket worker approaching the car to try and calm the situation, before Dale knocked her down. Members of the public then rush to the worker’s aid as she lies on the ground.
The security guard was seriously injured and required surgery to treat her broken ankle. She needed metal plates fitted and 14 screws to fix her foot, the court heard.
In a victim impact statement, she told Newcastle Crown Court she ‘wakes up every day in pain’ and is ‘triggered by loud cars’ as a result of the incident.
Dale has been jailed for three years and three months. She appeared for sentence on July 31.

The security guard said: ‘I could never have imagined how my life could change that day.
‘What started as a completely normal day for me turned into a nightmare and months of pain.
‘I wake up every day in pain. Then there’s the emotional and mental part. This has affected me everywhere I go.
‘I find it hard to be in a car when others are too close or break too hard. I’m also triggered by loud cars.
‘I’m now frightened and scared that I will get hurt again and that is because of you.’
The court heard she has also been diagnosed with PTSD.
Judge Gavin Doig told her: ‘The offences arise from an incident on the 8th of February this year. I have watched the CCTV footage of that incident.
‘You attended the ASDA car park in Wallsend. There was clearly an altercation.
‘The altercation outside came to the attention of the security. (The victim) had no idea she was to suffer the injury she was about to at your hands.
‘You arrived in your Audi, you drove your vehicle into another vehicle. Fortunately it didn’t cause damage to that car or anyone inside or around it.
‘You then reversed and drove towards a group of people who were on the road.’
The footage showed the victim being struck to the ground before having her foot driven over by Dale, who then fled the scene having retrieved her son.

She was also banned from driving for three years following her release from custody.
Penny Hall, mitigating, said: ‘Prior to her attendance at the car park she had received a rather panicked call from her son. She was worried as to what might be going to happen to him.
‘She wanted to make sure he was safe and bring him home.
‘When she got to the ASDA car park there were people surrounding him.
‘She did not go there intending to cause harm to anyone. She accepts she did cause harm and injury to the complainant for which she is remorseful. She is sorry it happened and asked that I express that.
‘That was clearly not her intention but she accepts by driving in the way she did when she arrived that’s what happened.
‘She has five children ranging from ages young up until teenagers.
‘She has been in custody since her arrest which is now almost six months. She doesn’t intend to move back to the area she was before.’
