Danny Cipriani has claimed he never truly knew estranged wife Victoria after she ‘hoodwinked’ him and built their four-year relationship on lies.
The ex rugby player, 36, has also denied Victoria’s claims he had been unfaithful during their marriage, after she said in a recent interview that he messaged other women and blew £600 a month on drugs.
Danny said that Victoria manipulated him from their first meeting and told outlandish tales about herself, including claiming she’d been headhunted by MI5 and had a multi-million pound inheritance.
He told The Sun: ‘When I look back now, I realise how much she hoodwinked me. But I really wanted to believe her.
‘I feel like I don’t know who she is. I don’t think I ever did because I have no idea what is the truth.’

Danny went on to say that loved ones began to ‘worry about him’ after they began to question things Victoria had revealed about her past.
He also recalled how Victoria’s pregnancy ‘truly changed him’ but it was at this time he missed the ‘red flags’ in their relationship.
They tragically lost their son in June 2020, who they named River, at 23 weeks.
Danny said: ‘I wanted to help Victoria and I thought I loved her. But by the end of the relationship, I felt she was manipulating me’.
Victoria, who has two children of her own and is also a grandmother, said they then went through gruelling rounds of IVF to try to have a child.
She previously admitted shouting ‘he’s my husband’ when Danny became close with an unknown women at a self help event.
But Danny said he was actually sat with a ‘long term friend’ who was a ‘spiritual lady’ and nothing untoward was happing, claiming Victoria simply lost her temper as a result of being drunk.

Danny has previously admitted to taking cocaine, a crystallised toad psychedelic and to having so many magic mushrooms that he became convinced his Victoria was trying to kill him.
Victoria said Danny would eat mushroom laced chocolate bars and she wouldn’t know if he was on them or not as he ‘would function so well’.

Victoria then announced that shockingly, she was ‘made aware of the situation at the same time as the public’ in a now deleted post.
The media personality opened up about the difficult time and apologised for her ’emotionally charge response.’

‘I apologise if my reactions and responses have seemed reactive or emotionally charged.
‘The truth is, I am still going through a difficult time, and it is challenging for me to see Danny speaking about our separation publicly while I have not yet found the strength to process it, adjust or heal.
Victoria concluded: ‘I really don’t want to be caught up in the fanfare. Sorry for any hurt I have caused.’
