The Maiden’s Castle is one of the most important historical symbols of the capital. Azerbaijani Baku, defies time with its unique architecture that still stands today.
The castle, believed to have been built in the Middle Ages, attracts thousands of tourists and history buffs throughout the year.
The castle is located in the old city on the banks of the Caspian Sea, and has served as a lighthouse, observatory and watchtower throughout history.
UNESCO included the Maiden’s Castle on its World Heritage List in 2000.
The 9-storey, 31-metre-high fortress offers visitors the opportunity to see the old quarters of Baku with a stunning view of the Caspian Sea.
The castle hosts Nowruz celebrations, which fall on March 21st every year.
