The Egyptian Public Prosecution ordered the release of artist Mohamed Fouad on bail of 10 thousand pounds, pending the ongoing investigations in the case in which he is accused of assaulting a doctor at Ain Shams Specialized Hospital.
According to investigation sources, the injured doctor has not yet dropped the report, and Mohamed Fouad has not made an offer of reconciliation, which increases the possibility of the case being referred to court for adjudication.
While Yasser Al-Hudaibi, the Egyptian artist’s lawyer, confirmed to local media that “his client accused the doctor of negligence and using force in his capacity as a public employee against a citizen, and he has no intention of reconciling with the doctor.”
Al-Hudaybi added, “The doctor started an unnecessary fight and left the patient without providing the necessary health services.”
Incident details
Investigations indicate that Mohamed Fouad received a phone call from the family of his older brother, Abdel Aziz, in the early hours of the morning, stating that his brother had suffered a critical health crisis that required his transfer to Ain Shams Specialized Hospital. Fouad immediately headed to the hospital with his business manager and a number of his friends to check on his brother.
Upon arriving at the emergency department, he was informed by the reception department that he needed to pay 70,000 EGP as a down payment for his brother’s treatment, who needed to have two stents inserted in his heart. Fouad went to the attending physician to inquire about his brother’s condition, but according to his statements, the doctor did not respond. After repeating the question, the doctor asked security to release Fouad from the hospital, which made him feel upset and very anxious, especially since he was suffering from inflammation of the seventh nerve, according to his statements.
In the midst of the tension of events, Fouad tried to film the doctor and document what was happening to file a complaint against him, but the doctor snatched his phone from his hand while he was trying to film.
Immediately after the incident, Ain Shams University, which is responsible for the hospital, announced that it would take legal action and file a report with the Public Prosecution Office, which is investigating what happened.
As for the head of the Doctors Syndicate, Dr. Osama Abdel-Hay, he condemned the incident “strongly”, stressing that the assault on medical staff is “absolutely unacceptable” and emphasizing that the Syndicate will take all necessary legal measures.
For his part, the head of the Musicians Syndicate, Mustafa Kamel, expressed his appreciation and respect for all doctors and nursing staff, noting that he had a long phone call with Fouad to find out the details of what was circulated on social media and the media.
Initial investigations
The Public Prosecution heard the statements of Mohamed Fouad’s brother and his business manager regarding the incident, and ordered the rapid security investigations by the Waili Police Department, and the summoning of eyewitnesses from the hospital to investigate the circumstances of the incident. The Public Prosecution also requested that the hospital’s surveillance cameras be emptied and a copy of them be kept to verify the events and determine whether Fouad had actually assaulted the doctor.
Initial investigations revealed that the dispute was caused by the doctor’s delay in conducting a medical examination on Mohamed Fouad’s brother, who was suffering from chest pain. This delay angered Fouad and those accompanying him, leading to a verbal altercation that developed into a fistfight between Fouad and the doctor. Despite the fight, no physical injuries were reported.
The Waili Police Department received a report from the affected doctor, in which he reported that he was assaulted by Mohamed Fouad inside the hospital. Immediately, the detectives moved to the scene of the incident, and the field inspection revealed that an altercation had occurred between Fouad and the doctor due to the delay in examining his brother. An official report was filed on the incident.
