The Israeli army announced that it had detected 30 rockets fired from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, and that its forces had attacked a launch pad and military facilities belonging to Hezbollah.
Meanwhile, Israeli Channel 12 revealed that the Israeli Security Cabinet has authorized the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu And his Minister of Defense Yoav Galant Making decisions regarding defense and attack against Hezbollahincluding decisions that could lead to a comprehensive war against Lebanon.
An Israeli military statement said on Wednesday evening that about 20 rockets were detected launched from Lebanon towards the Upper Galilee, noting that some of these rockets were intercepted and others fell in the Tel Hai area, causing a fire without causing any injuries.
In a second statement, the Israeli army said it had detected the launch of 10 rockets from Lebanon towards Mount Hermon in the Golan Heights (occupied Syria), and they fell in open areas.
In a third military statement, the occupation army said that its warplanes bombed a number of military buildings in which Hezbollah elements were present in the Al-Jbeen area (Tyre district) in southern Lebanon.
He added that his fighters also bombed a missile launch pad and military buildings belonging to Hezbollah in Marouhin (Tyre district), Halta (Hasbaya district), Kfar Kila and Adaisseh (Marjeyoun district), and Shamaa (Tyre district).
In contrast, Hezbollah announced – in separate statements – that its fighters had bombed the headquarters of the Sahel Battalion in the Israeli Beit Hillel barracks with a salvo of Katyusha rockets. It also bombed Israeli artillery positions in Neve Ziv across the southern border of Lebanon with rockets. The party said the attack was in response to Israeli attacks on southern villages, especially the towns of Majdal Silm and Blida.
This comes after 32 people were killed and more than 3,200 injured in two waves of explosions of telecommunications equipment in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lebanese government and Hezbollah accused Israel of being behind them, while the latter remained silent about them.
A new phase of war
In the latest developments on the Israeli side, Channel 12 said that the Security Cabinet decided to authorize Netanyahu and Galant to add the return of the northern residents to their homes to the war goals, and that this confirms that there is no disagreement in positions on achieving this goal between Netanyahu and Galant.
For his part, Netanyahu said – in a brief statement – that they will return the residents of the north to their towns “safely” and explained that Israel will ensure the return of tens of thousands of residents of the northern border areas, saying in a video statement, “I said this before, we will return the citizens of the north to their homes safely and this is exactly what we will do.”
While his Minister of Defense said that the war entered a new phase yesterday, with its center moving to Northern Borders Which is witnessing the transfer of more forces and resources, noting that the army is achieving accomplishments in cooperation with other security agencies, according to him.
“We are opening a new phase in the war… which requires courage, determination and perseverance from us,” Galant said in remarks at an air base. “Our mission is clear and simple: to return our citizens to their homes in the north.”
For his part, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi threatened Hezbollah that it “will pay a greater price in every stage of the war than it paid in the previous stage,” stressing that “we have not used all of our capabilities and we have a lot that we have not used yet and we are working on preparing plans to move forward.”
Yesterday, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth said that the army decided to transfer the “Commando 98” division from Gaza to the northern front, in preparation for the possibility of expanding the war against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
The Wall Street Journal also quoted an informed source as saying that the explosions in Lebanon coincided with Israel transferring a unit of Gaza Strip To the northern front, in light of the escalation with Hezbollah and the bombing of pagers and wireless devices in Lebanon since Tuesday, which have left dozens dead and thousands wounded.
This comes after Israel expanded its declared goals for the war on Gaza to include enabling Israelis to return to their homes in the north, in light of the ongoing war on the Strip since October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army indicated in a statement that the forces on the northern front continue their offensive and defensive missions, and that they conducted exercises simulating maneuvers in “enemy” territory and a scenario that includes evacuation operations from the battlefield under fire, according to the statement.
For his part, the commander of the northern region of the Israeli army, Uri Gordin, said that the mission has become clear, which is that the army is committed to changing the security reality on the northern front as quickly as possible.
Since October 8, Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon, including Hezbollah, have been exchanging daily shelling with the Israeli army across the Blue Line, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries, most of them on the Lebanese side.
These factions demand an end to the devastating war waged by Israel with American support on the Gaza Strip since October 7, which has left more than 136,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.
