Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga gave an exceptional performance in his team's exciting 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao in the ninth stage of the Spanish Football League on Sunday.
The 32-year-old Argentine goalkeeper saved two penalty kicks, one of which was returned, before fellow striker Cristian Stuani, who comes from Uruguay, succeeded in scoring the winning goal from a penalty kick in the ninth minute of stoppage time for the match, giving Girona the victory.
For his part, Girona coach Michel praised goalkeeper Gazzaniga – speaking to reporters – and added: โI am happy to get the three points, but we still have to improve a lot. I was impressed with the performance in the second half against Bilbao when we rose up. I was sure of the matter and that Stuani would score.โ (Penalty kick).โ
Alex Berenguer missed a penalty kick in the first half, as did Inaki Williams in the second half. Williams' kick was returned after the goalkeeper's foot crossed the goal line and Ander Herrera advanced to kick the replay, but the Argentine goalkeeper blocked his attempt.

Michel continued, “I did not think that he (Gazzaniga) would block the kick that Herrera retaken, because I thought he would not be able to block the third kick…but Gazzaniga intervened wonderfully to keep the team's hopes alive. I did not know what would have happened if the score had become 2-1.”
The Arabic account of the Girona Club on the X website reacted to the wonderful saves of its goalkeeper with a sarcastic tweet: โIf you throw hello to Gazinga, he will block it (he will block it).โ
