Defender Dani Carvajal suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during Real Madrid's match against Villarreal, yesterday, Saturday, in the Spanish League, joining a long list of his teammates who were kept away from the field by the same injury.
In an official statement, Real Madrid confirmed that Carvajal “was diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, a rupture of the external collateral ligament, and a rupture of the hamstring tendon in his right leg.”
The closing moments of the match witnessed friction between Carvajal and Villarreal player Jeremiah Pino, and the Merengue star fell to the ground after he was unable to stand on his feet and continued to scream loudly in pain.
Carvajal said in his sad message, “It has been confirmed that I have suffered a serious injury to the cruciate ligament, and I will undergo surgery, and I will remain away from the football field for several months.”
Carvajal's injury is not the first, as 8 players in the ranks of the Royal Club suffered the same injury during the past 13 months.
During last season, 3 of the Merengue stars suffered cruciate ligament injuries, the first of whom was Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, while preparing for the match against Athletic Bilbao at the opening of last season.
In turn, Austrian David Alaba also suffered a cruciate ligament tear last December.
