Spanish press reports stated that the Spanish League will take criminal measures against the Atletico Madrid Ultras group after the derby events.
Last Friday, the Spanish League submitted a letter to the Anti-Violence Committee against the Atletico Ultras due to the violence that occurred during the derby against Real Madrid and caused the match to be stopped.
The derby between the two neighbors ended in a 1-1 draw, but the match was stopped for several minutes due to projectiles being thrown at Royal Club goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The most extreme Rojiblancos fans poured their anger on the Belgian goalkeeper after his reaction to Militao's goal, which gave Real Madrid the lead.
In addition to calling for the dissolution of the group, La Liga is seeking to take other measures such as closing the buildings and institutions where it meets and suspending the activities carried out by the group due to its criminal actions.
The newspaper “Marca” indicated that the Spanish League, which documented 142 incidents related to the Atletico Ultras between the 2015-2016 and 2022-2023 seasons, will also request a ban on entering the “Metropolitano” stadium for those involved in the derby events.
Atletico Madrid, which cannot act against the ultras for legal reasons, faces a major problem with the group known as “Frente Atletico”, who are famous for their enthusiastic and organized support, but have become more extreme over the past years.
The Competitions Committee of the Spanish Football Federation punished Atletico Madrid by partially closing the southern end of the Civitas Metropolitano stadium for the next three matches.
This penalty will apply to Atletico Madrid when it welcomes Leganes, Las Palmas and Alaves.
Atletico will also have to pay a fine of 45,000 euros, in addition to closing the southern stands, where Ultras fans gather.
