Majid Al Futtaim Group intends to open the new Hyper Max brand in the Kingdom JordanYesterday, it suspended all Carrefour store operations under pressure from the popular boycott of brands that appeared to support the Israeli occupation in its war on… Gaza.
Yesterday, the Emirati group said in a post on the Carrefour Jordan page on the social networking site Facebook, “We thank our customers for their support and apologize for any inconvenience that may result from this decision.”
Carrefour was among the brands hit by the boycott campaign by the Jordanians in solidarity with Gaza since the beginning of the Israeli war on the Strip on October 7, 2023, and after video clips spread on social media showing Israeli soldiers carrying food supplies placed in bags bearing the Carrefour logo.
The group added, “We are pleased to invite you to participate with us in the launch of Hyper Max, our brand of food products in the retail sector, which is completely new in Jordan and wholly owned by Majid Al Futtaim,” adding that the opening is today at City Mall in the capital, Amman.
The new series
The group stated that the new chain will provide – through its 34 stores across the Kingdom – locally sourced food and home supplies that meet various customer needs.
Majid Al Futtaim operates more than 375 Carrefour stores in 15 countries, and owns the rights to operate the brand in more than 30 countries in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
And in Egypt In Kuwait and Jordan, which have the largest Palestinian refugee populations, the BDS movement has succeeded in directing many consumers away from companies seen as supporting Israel.
Earlier this year, Majid Al Futtaim said revenue from its retail division declined, partly due to a “shift in consumer sentiment linked to geopolitical tensions in the region.”
