Occupied Jerusalem- Researchers in Israeli affairs unanimously agree that the Prime Minister's decision Benjamin Netanyahu On the dismissal of the Minister of Defense Yoav Galant and appointment Yisrael Katz His place andGideon Saar Minister of Foreign Affairs guarantees the stability of the government until the end of its term in October 2026, and enables him to manage the war on… Gaza andLebanon Without opposition.
Analyzes agreed that the appointment of Katz and Sa'ar serves Netanyahu's personal and partisan agenda, according to what was inferred from Gallant's statements, who hinted that his dismissal guarantees for Netanyahu the continuation of the war, “which is without a compass and has political goals to keep him in the prime minister's seat,” in the opinion of analysts.
They believe that Katz and Sa'ar are in harmony with Netanyahu intellectually, politically, and ideologically in everything related to the conflict with the Palestinians, as well as regarding the stability of the government coalition and the approval of the law that exempts… Haredim From military service in the Israeli army, they will also provide unlimited political support to him by authorizing him to manage the war.
Personal motives
Israeli affairs researcher Antoine Shalhat reviewed the motives for Netanyahu's actions, stressing that they come to ensure the stability of his government until the end of its term and to continue the war and to monopolize its management and use it for his interests.
Shalhat confirmed to Al Jazeera Net that the goal of Gallant’s dismissal is to overcome any obstacles and disagreements regarding the exemption of the Haredim from conscription, the management of the war, and the file of Israeli detainees held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation) in Gaza, and these are issues over which he disagreed with Netanyahu.
In Shalhat's opinion, with this step, Netanyahu is deterring anyone else in the party Likud He is trying to follow in the footsteps of Gallant, who was someone who disagreed with him about the course of the war and its priorities, and who also aspired to head the party.
It is believed that Katz's appointment makes Netanyahu the de facto Minister of Defense; Because Katz lacks any military and security expertise and experience, any dictates and plans for the continuation of the war will be imposed on him in a way that serves his personal, party and political interests.
As for the appointment of Sa'ar, Shalhat believes that it was a step that strengthened the cohesion of the government coalition that was threatened by the ministers of the “extreme” right-wing parties, and so Netanyahu removed this threat and ensured stability if nothing dramatic happened in the Israeli political scene.
Ideological harmony
Researcher Shalhat pointed out that Katz and Sa'ar – before splitting from the Likud Party – each saw himself as a competitor to succeed Netanyahu as party leader, and it is now clear that they are “flirting with him” to gain his trust and support, especially Sa'ar, who defected from him, and all opinion polls indicate that His party will not exceed the electoral threshold, and therefore he aspires to return to the ranks of Likud.
He explained that they also agree with Netanyahu regarding civil and internal issues, whether what is described as a “coup against the judicial system” or imposing broad military service on religious Jews (Haredim).
The same reading was reviewed by writer and political analyst Taha Agbaria, who explained that Netanyahu seeks to impose his dominance on the political scene in Israel, as these amendments came to serve the goals of remaining in his position and enabling him to manage the war according to his political and partisan agenda without any interference from the Minister of Defense or the security system in general. He pointed out that Gallant expressed this view – after his dismissal.
He added to Al Jazeera Net that appointing Katz as Minister of Defense will enable Netanyahu to maneuver more in everything related to the continuation of the war, knowing that he is very close to him and the area of differences between them is very narrow and almost non-existent.
rubber stamp
From an Israeli point of view, spokesman for the “Peace Now” bloc, Adam Clare, says that Gallant's dismissal strengthens Netanyahu's grip on the political and party scene and on the right-wing camp, and also enables him to manage the course of the war in line with his personal and party interests.
Speaking to Al Jazeera Net, Clare believes that Netanyahu is the best choice for Katz, who will be a “rubber stamp for him,” and that Sa’ar is in harmony with him in foreign policies and ideology, especially since he believes in the so-called “Greater Land of Israel” and opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state, even if it is demilitarized.
He founded the so-called “New Likud” and sees everyone in Israeli society whose opinion differs from him as his enemy. He wanted to ensure his dominance and control over Likud in order to run for prime minister in the future, even if the current government ends its term in 2026.
