LANSING, Mich. (WNEM) – Michigan Attorney General (AG) Dana Nessel filed a notice of intervention in Consumers Energy’s latest rate case.
According to the AG’s office, Consumers is requesting a $248 million annual rate hike to its gas rates, which would increase rates for customers by 12% if approved.
This new request comes just five months after Consumers increased its gas rates by $35 million.
The AG’s office said Nessel plans in intervene before the Michigan Public Service Commission to ensure customers are not paying more without receiving quantifiable benefits for doing so.
In a Consumers gas rate case last year, Nessel helped reduce the company’s requested rate hike by 75%, the AG’s office said.
