WASHINGTON – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. on Tuesday as portions of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia are preparing for a dose of winter weather on Christmas Eve morning.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory due to expected freezing rain and some possible snow showers.
The D.C. area could see the wintry mix move in along the I-95 corridor sometime around 8 a.m. before transitioning to rain during the late morning hours.

The hazardous weather conditions could significantly impact the morning commute, making roads, bridges, and overpasses slick and hazardous. While most schools are closed for the holiday, last-minute shoppers may encounter unsafe road conditions and are urged to use caution.
Additionally, there may be the potential for power outages.
As we move into the afternoon, any icy accumulations will melt away. High temperatures in the mid-40s are expected on Tuesday. A dry Christmas Wednesday with high temperatures back in the mid-40s. Dry conditions and seasonal temperatures through the rest of the week with the chance for rain this weekend.
