A birthday celebration turned tragic when a pregnant Kissimmee woman was later stabbed multiple times Sunday night by a pizza delivery driver disgruntled over her tip, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Brianna Alvelo, 22, was arrested Monday on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, aggravated assault and home invasion with a firearm, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. She was booked into Osceola County Jail with a $55,000 bond, according to jail records.
An unidentified male suspect who participated in the attack remained at large as of Wednesday evening, the release said.
The victim, who learned she was a few weeks pregnant at the hospital after the stabbing, ordered pizza from Marco’s Pizza around 10 p.m. while celebrating her boyfriend’s birthday with her 5-year-old daughter at Riviera Motel, according to Alvelo’s arrest warrant affidavit.
Alvelo delivered the pizza to the motel and the victim gave her $50 for the $33.10 bill expecting change, but she began to walk away with the money, saying “they don’t provide change,” the affidavit said. The woman stopped her and asked for the money back “and began searching for a smaller denomination of money because she did not want to leave such a large tip.”
The victim looked through two separate wallets she pulled from her purse in front of Alvelo but had no small bills then walked outside to her vehicle to see if she could locate any but found no money, the affidavit said. She ultimately paid the bill and gave her a $2 tip, later telling deputies that Alvelo rolled her eyes as she left.
Later around 11:30 p.m., the victim was awakened by banging at her motel room door, according to the affidavit. When she went to open the door, a woman and man wearing black and facemasks forced themselves into the room. The man forced the boyfriend into the bathroom at gunpoint with a revolver while the woman pulled out a pocketknife and began going through the victim’s belongings, the affidavit said.
When the victim turned her back to shield her daughter the woman began stabbing her, the affidavit said. The victim attempted to grab her phone but Alvelo smashed it and continued stabbing her — a total of 14 times, according to the affidavit. She stopped when the man told her it was time to leave. The news release from the sheriff’s office said several items from the room were taken.
Deputies responded to the scene and took the victim to the hospital where she had surgery for a ruptured lung. After surgery she told them about the attack and her earlier interaction with Alvelo, while her boyfriend told them the suspects said “they knew what they were there for,” the affidavit said. Deputies ultimately identified the female suspect as Alvelo.
Investigators used motel surveillance footage to identify Alvelo’s car enter a nearby parking lot around 11:30 p.m., after which the suspects emerged from the area near the car and entered and exited the victim’s room before returning to the area of the car minutes later and then leaving the area, according to the affidavit.
Deputies contacted Marco’s Pizza and the manager identified Alvelo as the employee who delivered the food and said she clocked out about an hour before the incident, the affidavit shows. He also provided video of her wearing the same clothes as the suspect.
