GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Power has been restored in East Greensboro after a temporary outage on Thursday due to Duke Energy repairs.
On Thursday, Duke Energy suspended power from 9 a.m. to around 4:30 p.m. to repair damage to equipment at the substation that serves the Liberty Hill community ahead of Friday’s forecasted snowfall, according to Duke Energy.
The temporary outage affected around 1,400 customers in the area.
Kings Forest, Woodmere Park, Nealtown Farms and neighborhoods along Franklin Boulevard and White Street were in the impacted area.
When asked about what caused the damage to the substation, a Duke Energy spokesperson responded with the following:
“We are still investigating the cause of the damage. We just identified that the equipment had to be replaced to prevent a failure so that is our priority right now. “

Duke Energy said customers were notified by text and call. Several people said they didn’t get the message.
“I didn’t know. I just got up this morning to come out for my walk, and just before I left, it went out. I have a sick child at home, and it affects us with no heat,” Greensboro resident Daphne Dunlap said.

One woman who lives on Fernbrook Road said she first learned about the outage through Facebook around 9 a.m.
Soon after that, her power went out.
“None at all. I did receive an email at 11 a.m. from a friend telling me that it would be off at 9 a.m. I’m not sure how she was notified, but I wasn’t notified at all … It is an inconvenient time, but I’m glad they’re fixing it,” Greensboro resident Sheri Walker said.
