Boston’s Trevor Story hit a bizarre home run against Cleveland at Fenway Park on Monday when a fly ball deflected off an outfielder’s glove and then struck the Pesky Pole.
In the sixth inning, Story drove a 306-foot fly off pitcher Jakob Junis down the right-field line. Cleveland outfielder Jhonkensy Noel attempted a leaping catch, but the ball glanced off his glove and caromed off the foul pole.
As Story waited at second base, umpires initially ruled the play a foul ball. However, following a video review, crew chief Jordan Baker announced the call was overturned. The decision marked Story’s 23rd home run of the season and extended Boston’s lead to 6-3.
