The Other Mark Zuckerberg

An Indiana attorney named Mark S. Zuckerberg is suing Meta, alleging the social media platform has repeatedly suspended his Facebook account for impersonating its famous founder. The bankruptcy lawyer claims his account has been disabled five times in eight years, costing his business thousands of dollars.

The lawsuit, filed in Marion Superior Court, argues that Meta is in breach of contract. Mr. Zuckerberg claims he paid $11,000 for advertising on the platform, which was rendered useless when his account was suspended. “It’s like buying a billboard on the side of the highway, paying the people for the billboard and then they come and put a giant blanket over it,” he explained to a local TV station.

Mr. Zuckerberg notes that he has been a practicing lawyer for 38 years, starting when Facebook founder Mark E. Zuckerberg was a toddler. He stated that despite submitting photo identification and credit cards to prove he was not using a fake name, the company repeatedly accused him of violating its policies.

The attorney’s account was most recently shut down in May and was only restored after his lawsuit was filed. In a statement, Meta confirmed it had “reinstated Mark Zuckerberg’s account, after finding it had been disabled in error.” The company added, “We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg’s continued patience on this issue and are working to try and prevent this from happening in the future.”

This is not the first time the lawyer has faced complications due to his name. He runs a website to document the mix-ups, which once included being inadvertently named in a lawsuit by the state of Washington.
