Fresh off his first NFL MVP award, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is championing his wife, actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, for an award of her own.
During an interview on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” that aired Tuesday, Allen praised Steinfeld’s performance in her latest film, “Sinners,” and suggested she is deserving of industry recognition. The quarterback, a noted movie buff, gave the film an “A-plus grade.”
“It combines a lot of different aspects of life,” Allen explained. “My wife absolutely kills it, and hopefully, award season coming around, people make the right decision.”
Speaking with NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt, Allen admitted he was moved to tears at the movie’s premiere.
“I was just so proud of her,” Allen said with a smile. “I get emotional thinking about it, but it was a pretty cool experience… I’m just there trying to support her, in whatever way that I can. And that was her moment, and I’m so glad she got to shine.”
“Sinners,” which also stars Michael B. Jordan, has been a commercial success, grossing over $300 million worldwide.
Allen and Steinfeld were married on May 31 after announcing their engagement last November.
