Actor Charged in Road Rage Shooting That Sparked Stockton University Lockdown

An actor has been charged with attempted homicide in connection with a road rage shooting that triggered a lockdown at Stockton University in Galloway Township, New Jersey, on Thursday.

Police have arrested Ernest Wesley Heinz, 46, of Port Republic, for his alleged role in the incident. According to his IMDB profile, Heinz has had several minor roles in movies, television shows, and the “Resident Evil” video game series.

The shooting occurred around 12:52 p.m. on W. Jimmie Leeds Road. According to court documents, a woman reported that a suspect in a white Honda SUV cut her off as she was trying to merge. When both vehicles stopped at a red light, the driver allegedly cursed at her, threatened to kill her, and then fired a single shot from his window.

Officers arrived to find the victim with a wound to her upper nose. “Fortunately, it didn’t look like it caught anything major and she was able to maintain consciousness and speak to our officers,” said Capt. Mark D’Esposito of the Galloway Township Police Department.

The victim told police the gunman fled onto the Stockton University campus. This prompted a shelter-in-place order that lasted for approximately three hours as a precaution while police searched the area.

Based on the victim’s description of the attacker and his vehicle, detectives identified Heinz as the suspect. He was taken into custody later that day at a residence in the Blue Herron Pines Development. Police also executed search warrants on multiple residences and two vehicles.

Heinz is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility and is scheduled for a detention hearing next week.

In a statement, Stockton University President Joe Bertolino acknowledged the alert was “unsettling” and commended the community for its patience and cooperation. The university resumed normal operations on Friday.
