Microsoft has officially announced that Forza Horizon 6, the next installment in its acclaimed open-world racing series, will be set in Japan and is slated for a 2026 release. The confirmation arrived via an Instagram post published several hours ahead of the scheduled Xbox Tokyo Game Show broadcast.
The post featured a brief teaser video confirming the new location, with a caption reading, “The Horizon Festival is heading to Japan. Coming 2026. Wishlist now!” Accompanying logos also verified that the title will be an Xbox Play Anywhere release and will launch on Xbox Game Pass.
While the announcement appears to have been published prematurely, the details align with previous reports and widespread speculation. Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, had previously indicated a new Forza entry would arrive in 2026. Following recent reports of significant layoffs affecting the Forza Motorsport team, it was widely assumed the next game would be a Horizon title.
The Japan setting has also been a long-standing request from fans, and speculation intensified last month after a social media post from a car import company with ties to the franchise hinted at the location.
