As the 2025 college football season transitions into its conference schedule, the race for the 2026 NFL Draft is intensifying. Week 4 provided a crucial test for the nation’s top quarterback prospects, offering a clearer picture of a class considered more top-heavy with established talent than the previous year’s.
While the top four prospects remain unchanged heading into Week 5, all are facing their most significant challenges of the season this coming Saturday. Here is an updated ranking of the top eight quarterback prospects for the 2026 NFL Draft.
2026 NFL Draft Quarterback Prospect Rankings
1. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
- Week 4 vs. Southeastern Louisiana: 25-31 (80.6%) for 273 yards, 3 TDs; 3 carries for 30 yards, 1 TD
After a modest performance against Florida, Nussmeier responded with his most productive game of the season, accounting for four touchdowns. Although the competition was lesser, he demonstrated his trademark ability to extend plays, highlighted by a third-down touchdown pass to Zavion Thomas just before halftime. Coach Brian Kelly noted that Nussmeier is recovering well from an offseason torso injury, which should lead to improved consistency. A major test awaits in Week 5 against Ole Miss in what could be a high-scoring SEC matchup.
2. LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina
- Week 4 at Missouri: 18-28 (64.3%) for 302 yards, 2 TDs; 5 carries for 18 yards
Returning from injury, Sellers delivered his best passing performance of the season, surpassing 300 yards for the third time in his career. He showcased his arm by aggressively pushing the ball downfield, recording a season-high average depth of target (ADOT) of 15.7 yards. However, his decision-making remains a concern. Sellers made several turnover-worthy throws that should have been intercepted and took multiple sacks by neglecting checkdowns. He will need to refine his judgment against a rested Kentucky team in Week 5.
3. Fernando Mendoza, Indiana
- Week 4 vs. Illinois: 21-23 (91.3%) for 267 yards, 5 TDs; 5 carries for 18 yards
Mendoza continued to guide Indiana’s potent offense in a dominant victory over Illinois, bringing his nation-leading touchdown total to 14. In response to Illinois’ defensive pressure, Indiana relied heavily on its run-pass option (RPO) game. While this limited opportunities to evaluate Mendoza’s full skill set, it showcased his impressive physical profile at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. His stat line was inflated by short passes against Illinois’ defensive scheme, reflected in a low 6.4-yard ADOT. A much tougher challenge looms against Iowa’s formidable pass defense.
4. Drew Allar, Penn State
- Week 4: Bye
Penn State had a bye week to prepare for its pivotal Week 5 matchup against Oregon. The game will be a major proving ground for Allar, who will face a defense featuring potential first-round NFL talent in edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei and safety Dillon Thieneman.
5. John Mateer, Oklahoma
- Week 4 vs. Auburn: 25-37 (67.6%) for 268 yards, 1 TD; 11 carries for 45 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble
Mateer was playing exceptionally well before suffering a hand injury that will require surgery and cause him to miss time. Against an Auburn defense led by top edge rusher Keldrick Faulk, Mateer was pressured 17 times but took only one sack, demonstrating poise and quick decision-making. He connected with Isaiah Sategna III for a touchdown but also had a costly fumble that Auburn returned for a score. His promising ascent into the top five has unfortunately been put on hold.
6. Arch Manning, Texas
- Week 4 vs. Sam Houston State: 18-21 (85.7%) for 309 yards, 3 TDs; 4 carries for 12 yards, 2 TDs
Manning delivered his strongest statistical performance of the season, though it came against Sam Houston State, likely the weakest opponent on Texas’ schedule. Despite some early, inaccurate throws, he settled in and built confidence by connecting frequently with receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., who returned from injury. Manning also contributed with his legs, scoring two rushing touchdowns. To climb these rankings, he must prove himself against the future NFL talent he will face when Florida visits in Week 5.
7. Dante Moore, Oregon
- Week 4 vs. Oregon State: 21-31 (67.7%) for 305 yards, 4 TDs; 6 carries for 62 yards
Moore solidified his place on this list with a four-touchdown performance against Oregon State. After a slow start, he found his rhythm in the second quarter, showcasing his quick release and deep passing ability. Notably, Moore was more effective as a runner, posting a season-high 62 rushing yards. His development will be under the microscope in a massive road showdown against College Football Playoff contender Penn State in Week 5.
8. Jaden Leavitt, Arizona State
- Week 4 at Baylor: 22-32 (68.8%) for 221 yards, 1 TD; 15 carries for 64 yards, 1 TD
Leavitt returns to the rankings after an impressive dual-threat outing against Baylor. He achieved a season-high completion percentage while remaining aggressive, posting an 8.2-yard ADOT from a clean pocket. While his final stat line was solid, there were moments for improvement; a 49-yard deep shot was slightly underthrown, costing his receiver additional yards. Later, he connected with top wideout Jordyn Tyson for a go-ahead touchdown, showcasing the duo’s NFL potential. Leavitt can continue to build his case against TCU in Week 5.
Next Two Up: Jayden Maiava, USC; Carson Beck, Miami
