Just one month after its release, the hit film K-Pop Demon Hunters is facing an unexpected challenger for Netflix’s top spot—a disaster epic from nearly a decade ago.
The 2015 blockbuster San Andreas, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is experiencing a significant resurgence in popularity. The film follows a search-and-rescue pilot who, after a catastrophic earthquake triggered by the San Andreas Fault, must team up with his estranged wife to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their daughter. As they journey north through the devastation, they discover the worst is yet to come.
The film’s cast also includes Alexandra Daddario, Carla Gugino, and Paul Giamatti.
Upon its initial 2015 release, San Andreas was a massive box office triumph, earning $475 million worldwide despite a middling critical reception. For seven years, it held the record as the highest-grossing original live-action Hollywood film.
This renewed popularity has propelled San Andreas back into the spotlight, securing it a place on Netflix’s Top 10 list. The film is available to stream now on the platform.
