‘You can’t beat the market, so profit from being a passive investor’, says Lars Kroijer on the Investing Show
‘I’m not saying markets can’t be beaten, I just think each individual investor has to say am I the person who is able to compete… and statistically speaking the answer is the overwhelming majority of retail investors massively underperform the market.’
Those are the words of Lars Kroijer, a man who has become a leading supporter of passive investing in the UK – and who as a hedge fund manager you might consider to know what he is talking about when it comes to the chance of beating the market.
On the latest episode of the Investing Show, we ask Lars to explain why he believes this and how investors can build a simple passive investing portfolio that lets them sleep at night.
The author of Investing Demystified explains to Simon Lambert, of This is Money, why despite being a successful hedge fund manager he believes trying to beat the market is a mistake and why a global tracker fund and bond portfolio is a better option.
And he tackles the question of why investors who can easily produce an example of a fund they hold that has beaten the market should still consider the passive route instead.
