BBC commentator narrates hilarious penguin race
With no sports to call, BBC commentator Andrew Cotter turns penguins running to their burrows into a gripping play-by-play.
FC Barcelona has signed U.S. international Sergino Dest from AFC Ajax, the Spanish club confirmed Thursday. Dest joins on a five-year, €21 million agreement ($24.6 million), with a possible €5 million in add-on variables (up to $30.5 million dollars total).
Dest becomes the first American to sign for the Barcelona first team, according to the club.
He joins fellow American Konrad de le Fuente – currently playing for Barcelona’s ‘B’ team – who ascended through the youth ranks and made his debut in a preseason friendly Sept. 12.
An attacking right back, also capable of playing a left back, Dest spent much of the 2019-20 season as a regular starter for Ajax since his debut for the Amsterdam-based team in July 2019.
The American comes into the team as a replacement for departed Portuguese right back Nelson Semedo, who signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. Dest will compete for a spot in the squad with Sergi Roberto, a Barcelona youth product who can play as right back or in midfield.
Born and raised in the Netherlands to an American father and Dutch mother, and eligible to play for the Dutch national team, Dest announced his permanent national allegiance to the U.S. men’s national team in October 2019. He was a part of the youth national teams at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Following his commitment to the USMNT, Dest has made three appearances for the senior team, with his last coming in a November 2019 match against Canada.
At the end of 2019, Dest was named the Young Male Player of the Tear by U.S. Soccer.
