Sony has unveiled a new special edition controller for the PlayStation 5, inspired by the brand’s iconic color palette. The DualSense wireless controller – Icon Blue Special Edition features layered shades of blue and a glossy pattern of the classic PlayStation shapes on its touchpad.
Leo Cardoso of PlayStation’s Color, Material, and Finish design team explained the creative vision behind the new accessory. “From the moment the console powers on and the DualSense controller lights up, that signature blue glow signals the start of something special,” Cardoso stated. “Inspired by PlayStation’s iconic shades of blue, this design captures the feeling of anticipation and wonder every time you pick up the controller. As a nod to our origins, we added Katakana characters on the back that spell our name the Japanese way: Pureisutēshon.”
The Icon Blue Special Edition controller will launch exclusively at Walmart locations and on Walmart.com. It will be available on October 20 in the U.S. and Canada for a recommended retail price of $84.99 USD / $109.99 CAD. The release will follow on October 28 in Mexico and Chile, priced at $1,899 MXN / $93,490 CLP.
In addition to the controller, Sony is releasing a new line of PlayStation-themed merchandise in the U.S., featuring characters and themes from popular games. The collection includes:
- Astro Bot Lunch Box: A collectible lunch box with a lenticular face of Astro Bot that shifts expressions.
- Twisted Metal Meltz Figures: An assortment of Culturefly’s Meltz figures reimagined as characters and vehicles from the Twisted Metal series.
