A Georgia man has been arrested in Aiken County and charged with lottery fraud, according to the South Carolina Law enforcement Division (SLED).
Harold Dean Pace III, 39, was taken into custody on Saturday and faces two counts of intent to defraud and counterfeit game tickets. He was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center.
The charges stem from an incident in March 2023 when Pace allegedly attempted to cash a stolen scratch-off ticket at a Sprint Food Store in North Augusta. Investigators determined the ticket had been stolen from an 88 Mart in Clarks Hill. At the time of the alleged cashing attempt, Pace was at the Sprint Food Store providing pest control services.
SLED launched its investigation at the request of the SC Education Lottery, basing the arrest on police work and video evidence. The 2nd Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case.
