Chicago is set for its eighth consecutive day of above-average temperatures, continuing a warm trend that has seen only two cooler-than-normal days since September 10.
On Friday, residents can expect highs to reach well into the 70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Cloud cover will increase overnight, with showers possible toward daybreak on Saturday.
The weekend forecast calls for intermittent rain rather than a complete washout. Scattered showers are expected Saturday morning, followed by a dry period before another round of showers and thunderstorms develops late in the afternoon and into the evening. Temperatures will remain unseasonably warm, with highs in the low to mid-70s.
The heaviest rainfall is anticipated from late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with southeastern counties likely to see the highest accumulations while far northern areas receive much lighter amounts.
A significant cool-down will arrive on Sunday, with blustery conditions and temperatures struggling to climb out of the 50s. The majority of the rain is expected to clear the area by the start of the Bears game.
Looking ahead, Monday will be mostly sunny and seasonable, with highs in the mid-60s. While a brief shower is possible Monday night into Tuesday morning, the week is forecast to bring temperatures closer to the seasonal norm of around 60 degrees.
