(Trends Wide) — A 12-year-old boy is accused of shooting and killing an employee at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant in Texas after an argument in the parking lot, authorities said.
Matthew Davis, 32, was working at the Sonic Drive-In on Saturday night and confronted 20-year-old Angel Gomez because he was “disturbing the order in the parking lot,” Keene Police said.
“The discussion soon turned physical. During the altercation, a minor… a passenger in the suspect’s vehicle, recovered a firearm and fired multiple shots, wounding the victim,” Keene police said in a statement on Facebook.
Keene Police Chief James Kidd told Trends Wide that at least six shots were fired from a “.22 AR-style rifle” that struck Davis.
Deputies received a 911 call at around 9:40 p.m. and when they arrived they treated Davis. He was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Gomez and the 12-year-old boy had already fled the scene, police said.
Gomez returned to the parking lot where he was stopped. Officers later located the boy and recovered several firearms when he was taken into custody, police said.
Both Gomez and the minor were charged with murder, police said. The boy is being held in Granbury, Kidd said, but he had no other information about Gomez.
It is not clear if Gomez has obtained an attorney.
Keene is about 60 km southwest of Dallas.
