A book to decipher the tax system in a simplified way

The book WTF with the SAT (Aguilar, 2022), written by Paulina Casso, has sold more than 20,000 copies in its first edition and therefore an updated second edition will be printed so that all taxpayers, individuals, corporations, young people and Adults can understand what the Tax Administration Service (SAT) is through memes and pop culture references.

The idea for the book, explained the interviewee, was born from seeing tweets sent to Yordi Rosado, author of Quiúbole con…, a book aimed at young people where he addresses sexuality, the internet or self-esteem, so that he could write a book about the Administration Service tax

Given what was seen on Twitter, the writer mentioned that the SAT, and tax issues are so complicated that no one wanted to explain it in a friendlier way, however it is much needed.

“Nobody has explained to us, (for example) in the time we studied at school, there is never a tax or financial education subject. So it was very necessary to get an accounting book or tax payment in a language that we could all understand”, Casso commented.

However, the author mentioned that in order to write and publish the book, she consulted with accountants. In addition to the fact that the Tax Administration Service and the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit have approached her to congratulate her on the tax dissemination work that she has done for her.

“A great success to write the book in a more friendly way was that I am not an accountant myself, added to the fact that I really like pop culture. I studied entertainment business management, so I was very familiar with cinema, with celebrities and things like that. So that is why I wanted to teach through memes or humorous illustrations so that this book would be more friendly for the new generations”, explained Paulina Casso.

From macro to micro

The book addresses macroeconomic issues such as understanding the fiscal context in Mexico, whether many or few taxes are paid compared to other countries, who has to pay taxes and what they do with that money. Rather, his work also tells people how to file an annual return.

In addition, he commented that the first edition of the book was well received by readers, since it sold out in the first three days of its publication.

“People liked the format, they felt familiar with the language, with the examples, with everything, and this caused the book to become a best seller. We have four reprints of the first edition and more than 20,000 copies sold ”, he mentioned.

The second edition of the “WTF with the SAT” will go on sale in 2023 as a result of doubts in the Simplified Trust Regime (Resico), in electronic invoicing or in the investment tax regime.

The author mentioned that in June she will publish another book related to the Institute of the National Housing Fund for Workers (Infonavit) and the retirement fund administrators (Afores).
