A brother-in-law of “El Mencho” pleads guilty to drug trafficking in the US

A brother-in-law of the Mexican drug trafficker “El Mencho”José González Valencia, who was the leader of The Cuinispleaded guilty to cocaine trafficking this Thursday before a US court, the Department of Justice reported.

José González Valencia, alias “El Chepa”, pleaded guilty to “conspiracy to distribute five kilos or more of cocaine, knowingly and with the intent to import it into the United States,” it said in a statement.

According to court documents, “El Chepa”, 47, between 2006 and 2016 led the drug trafficking organization Los Cuinis“responsible for importing large quantities of cocaine from Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala and elsewhere into the United States,” reports the US government.

It was arrested in Brazil in 2017 and extradited to the United States in 2021.

The Cuinis are closely linked to the Mexican Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), and both use “extreme violence,” accuses Washington.

González Valencia is the brother of the leaders of Los Cuinis, Abigael González Valencia and Gerardo González Valencia, and brother-in-law of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantesalias “El Mencho”, leader of the CJNG.

“González Valencia worked with Los Cuinis and the CJNG to bring thousands of kilos of drugs to the United States,” said Deputy Attorney General Kenneth Polite Jr, quoted in the note.

On April 7, 2023, the sentence will be known, which will be at least ten years in prison.
