Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro launched a sweeping attack on the anti-Covid-19 vaccines, without hesitating to assert that the Pfizer vaccine could make a woman grow a beard, and turn a person into a crocodile. According to Monte Carlo Radio International, Bolsonaro said during a speech in Porto Seguro in northeastern Brazil: “In the contract with Pfizer, they say very clearly: We are not responsible for any side effects, if you turn into a crocodile, then this is your problem.”
He was referring to the vaccine developed by the US laboratory Pfizer and the German company Biontech, which was tested in Brazil for weeks and the United Kingdom and the United States began using it.
The president said, “If a person becomes Superman or a woman grows a beard, or a man begins to speak in a female voice, they have nothing to do with that.”
Despite the president’s reluctance, the Supreme Court in Brazil decided Thursday to make vaccination against Covid-19 compulsory, but without being forced, in the second most affected country in the world after the United States, with about 185,000 deaths. This means that the authorities will not be able to use force to force a person to take the vaccine, but they will be able to fine him or prevent him from going to certain public places.
Jair Bolsonaro assured that “the vaccine, once approved by the health agency Invisa, will be available to everyone who wants it. But I will not receive the vaccine. … Some say that I give a bad example. Antibodies, so why should I get the vaccine?
Bolsonaro fell ill in July and recovered after twenty days without showing severe symptoms.
