The delegation conveyed the greetings of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, expressing its happiness in cooperating with the transitional government to achieve justice for the victims of the war in Darfur.
Within the framework of the court’s pursuit of its duties to the fullest, it was agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding in the future between Sudan and the court in order to clarify the form of cooperation, facilitate the tasks of delegations and overcome all difficulties that may face them.
For his part, the Sudanese minister appreciated the efforts of the criminal court delegation, and affirmed the Foreign Ministry’s readiness to work to facilitate the delegation’s tasks in accordance with the terms of the memorandum of understanding to achieve common goals.
It is noteworthy that the former Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, has been wanted by the International Criminal Court, since 2008, on charges of committing war crimes in Darfur.
On April 11, 2019, the Sudanese Armed Forces removed al-Bashir from his post, after several months of protests and civilian uprisings. On November 5, 2019, the Sudanese transitional authorities announced that they had reached a consensual decision to transfer Al-Bashir to the International Criminal Court after completing his trial in cases of corruption and money laundering.
