He added, explaining that hiccups occur when the vagus nerve, which passes through the entire human trunk, including through the diaphragm, is irritated.
He says, “If there are problems, a diaphragm abscess, or infections in the bottom, or a process above, then this nerve is irritated, and the signal reaches the brain, and this may lead to a person hiccuping.”
Miyasnikov advises people who suffer from hiccups often to see a specialist. If the results of the examination show that there is no problem, recurrent hiccups can be stopped by taking an anticonvulsant (antiepileptic) medication.
