(CNN Business) – A Facebook spokesperson told CNN on Wednesday that the company has seen signals online, on its platform and elsewhere, indicating the possibility of more violence in the wake of the congressional storming events last week.
The spokesman said the company is working with organizations that track terrorists and dangerous groups to monitor conversations on other platforms, such as 8 Kun (formerly Chan8) and 4 Chan, in an effort to prevent talk of violence from those platforms that have become commonplace on Facebook.
It is noteworthy that one of the examples of what Facebook is doing in this regard, according to the official spokesperson, is to collect and index the promotional publications that are distributed to other sites for more demos this weekend and the day of the inauguration.
Indexing promotional materials like this can help make it easier to identify and remove those materials from their platforms or prevent them from being published in the first place.
The spokesman said Facebook is monitoring and removing praise or support for the congressional storming last week from its platform.
The spokesman confirmed that Facebook passed the information on to the FBI and was cooperating with the agency’s efforts to identify members of Tamarod last week.
